Living in Portland’s Downtown Has Its Benefits

By eyeswide, February 21, 2010

The downtown lifetyle may not be for everyone, but for those who are drawn to it, downtown Portland real estate in Oregon can offer some amazing perks.

One of the best benefits to living in the heart of downtown Portland is how pain-free transportation is to and from the downtown area and within it. For most residents, bikes and public transportation are the preferred way of transportation. Of course, there’s no necessity for a car or a bike if you use the city’s nationally acclaimed public transit system, TriMet. But Portand is quote a flexible city and accommodates all types of transportation.

Walking regularly is one way to get (and stay) healthy, and Portland is very definitely pedestrian-friendly. In fact, Portland’s city blocks were made quite a bit smaller than those in some other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making for a closer walk to Portland’s many corner shops and restaurants. If your place of employment is downtown, you may actually be able to get rid of your car entirely.

Portland’s downtown district has some fantastic residential areas where you can buy a Portland converted loft and live in the heart of the city in style. Depending upon where your work is, you may actually end up living within close walking distance from it.

There are some very good neighborhoods you should look into if you want to live in a loft or condo in Portland, but one of the best places is The Pearl District. Popular because of the many retail shops and easy to use public transportation, The Pearl District also happens to be where many trendy art galleries and upscale businesses are located.
